What’s In Season in NZ – May

MAY-chart

May brings with it a chill in the air and the start of a feeling of hibernation. Fruit and veges start to become more hearty and earthy as Winter comes closer and closer.

This month dig in to capsicums, salad greens and tomatoes – there is still time for plenty of delicious salads! You’ll also be able to start enjoying delicious roasted vegetable – beetroot, parsnips, pumpkin and butternut squash are key flavours to enjoy. Eggplants, fennel and leeks can add extra depth and warmth to your meals. Why not try out our delicious roasted vege recipe while you are at it?

Fruit wise – pears, passionfruit and the delectable Feijoa is still around, so make the most of them! We’ve been enjoying them in our yummy Feijoa smoothie too.

Remember that shopping seasonally helps not only your grocery budget but also your taste buds. The free PICK + PALEO May Seasonal printable sheet is available at the bottom of this post, so don’t forget to pop it in your shopping basket and stock up on fresh fruit and veg!
